The third in our triage of close encounters of the Marine kind off sunny California. And while we’ve seen some pretty funky sh*t on this blog, especially off the coast of California, I gotta say this one will make you soil yourself more than any other. The scene, a surfer lazily taking in a nice day off Santa Cruz, California. And then…watch. The third tag I’ve added to this post sums it up pretty nicely.

You know the mark of a good hotel is when you get up in the morning, you open your room window and just, kinda, like dive out of it. I have no idea where this is, I’m thinking California maybe, but I am just so digging this video, of these bad-ass mountain bikers who do the 35 foot leap into the air and the subsequently landing into this gentle pond. Love the music, love the picture, love some of these ridiculous moves these guys pull before the pond landing. And with close to two million hits on YouTube, it looks like a lot of folks are digging it also.

After watching this video I realized three things.  First I am glad to have Norwegian ancestry because if YouTube is correct, Norwegians have mastered the art of skiing and BASE Jumping and have cojones big enough to fit in a dump truck.  Two, this video, of Norwegian daredevil Halvor Angvik speed flying (if that’s what you want to call it) in Wengen, Switzerland this year is amazing, and three, I am definitely asking Santa Claus for a wing-suit for Christmas!

I guess this guy didn’t feel like paying the fare…so he hitched a ride on a sled! Not as effective in summer I guess. You could try it with rollerblades though.

I’m starting this posting with a confession and an apology.  The following content is not related to adventure travel, and is so cringe-worthy that I need to say I’m sorry to you in advance, because you’re about to laugh and cry at the same time.  Now the good stuff.  What do football and “The Squirrel” have in common?  You’re about to find out!  Click here for the funniest touchdown dances in history.  The Chad Johnson one is my favourite.

The red light district is for tourists.  These adrenaline junkies have found a much more original way to explore the vice sink of Europe.  This whole video has the feel of a BASE jump.  I love how they stay just one step ahead of the authorities.  The video is in another language – German maybe? – but the grins are universal.

This is probably fake, but it’s just plain awesome, and too funny for words!  Can you watch it without laughing?

Oh man, where do I start with this one. This guy trains animals to surf as a hobby. He’s spent ten years training dogs how to surf, and was looking to broaden his horizons, so he’s now surfing with a llama. Yes, a llama. The funny thing is, that sounds like something I would do. The llama’s name is Frisco, by the way. No word on whether Frisco beat up any locals, but it’s safe to say that his trainer, Domingo, will never be short of conversation starters at cocktail parties.

Some things just go together.  Olive oil and garlic, Rocky and Bullwinkle.  And, um, skydiving and kayaks.  You’re thinking, What has this guy been smoking?  The truth is, I spend way too much time surfing YouTube, and yes, I do need to get out more.  But this video is just epic.  I wonder if it would work with a sailboat.
