About The Bodhi Tree (Dot Ca!)

Hi. I’m Steve. I’m Canadian. And I’m into adventure travel and adventure sports.
As a teen ager I was never really active. I didn’t play sports. I definitely didn’t do the crazy stuff I blog about now.
Then at 17 I saw a movie that changed my life. The movie was Point Break. And it rocked my world.
How’s this? There was just something about Point Break that resonated with me regarding fate/life/destiny and how we go about the tedium of our lives. Yes, tedium. Many of us never go beyond our solipsistic shells, our neighbourhoods, our families and friends. Some of us never leave the towns we’re from, travel abroad or realize that there’s a world beyond our own. And at the center? Adventure, and celebration of life.
In 2007 I fulfilled a life-long dream to cage dive with great white sharks. Three years later I dived with sharks again, this time off the north coast of Hawaii. Realizing how important that adventure travel is to me personally, combined with my love of backpacking, a friend of mine convinced me to start this blog. Herein thebodhitree.ca was born. Not dot com…that one was taken
And yet, if there was a single factor above all others that convinced me to start this blog, I again return to Point Break. Those of us that grew up in the 90s have seen this amazing motion picture and know exactly what I’m talking about – Bodhi, AKA Patrick Swayze’s mystical guru surfer who skydived, robbed banks and surfed some of the wildest waves this side of Jupiter. Anything for a rush, and to know, in his words, that “The Human Spirit is still alive”.
I’m not a bank robber. I’ve never sky-dived. But I’m convinced that the God/The Universe/Insert Governing Authority HERE has a master plan for us all. And on few occasions, a select few of us dance with the Universe, and dangle two hairs shy of the boundary between this life and of that beyond..
This site is about adventure sports and adventure travell, and to those few who surf, kayak, BASE Jump, dive with sharks, ski, snowboard and generally go forth and travel the corners of globe for a thrill, a rush, of what Bodhi would call “100% Pure Adrenaline”.
You’ll also notice I blog about sharks and the need to protect them. I love sharks. I think they’re the most amazing creatures on this planet. Unfortunately, they’re being killed off at an alarming pace. Hence, I hope that my voice might join a growing movement among the world’s movers and shakers to raise awareness of shark-finning and the need to help our friends, the sharks.
This is The Bodhi Tree, an adventure travel blog for those looking to go beyond the confines of monotony. Our planet rocks. And cool people rock with it. Are you among them? Join me, and let’s explore it together.
Welcome to TheBodhiTree.ca!
